Richard Koonce is an independent HR consultant in Washington, DC.
An accomplished writer, interviewer and consultant, he is the author or co-author of four books including: Strategic Six Sigma: Best Practices from the Executive Suite (Wiley, 2002), Growing Leaders (ASTD, 2001), Business Climate Shifts: Profiles of Change Makers (Butterworth-Heinemann, 2000), and CAREER POWER! (Amacom, 1994.)
A former broadcast journalist and regular commentator on Public Radio’s popular “Marketplace” program for five years, Richard has interviewed numerous business leaders and public figures ranging from celebrities and CEOs to athletes, authors, movie stars, and U.S. presidents. He is known for his easygoing writing style, and his ability to extract lively, incisive, and revealing interviews from people in all walks of life, having conducted hundreds of print, radio, and video interviews in the course of a 25-year journalistic and business career.
Past clients of Richard’s include PricewaterhouseCoopers, Grant Thornton and IBM, as well Smith College, Columbia University and Harvard Business School. He has co-written or ghostwritten over 150 articles and columns for the business and trade press, and produced numerous business videos, promotional spots and DVD’s for various corporate and nonprofit clients.
Richard is a member of The National Press Club and of Leadership Greater Washington. He holds a Master of Arts in Political Science from Georgetown University and a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies from the College of William and Mary. He is also a graduate of the AT&T National Sales School, and holds a Certificate in Leadership Coaching from the Georgetown University Center for Professional Development.
Richard serves on the Editorial Boards of T&D Magazine, the flagship publication of The American Society for Training & Development, The Public Manager, and the Journal of Organizational Excellence.
